Sonos Beam vs Yamaha YSP-2700

Sonos Beam review

I had a chance to make a closer look at the top surface. It shows that the soundbar has a slightly concave shape, with rounded outer edges. According to the Sonos designers, this form was created specifically to hide two LED indicators and controls. At the rear of the Sonos Beam is an HDMI port with ARC support, which had not previously been installed on other products of the company. Using this port, you can control some functions of the TV, including the volume using voice commands. There are 3.0 built-in channels. Sonos Beam

Yamaha YSP-2700 review

The 7.1-channel unit delivers 107W of overall output power. The front of the YSP-2700 includes 16 high-quality 2.8-cm speakers that emit “beams of sound”. The layout of the array speakers is optimized in such a way that the reflective properties of the rays are enhanced to obtain the highest possible sound quality. The subwoofer does not require a cable connection, and this greatly simplifies its placement and preparation for work. This subwoofer, which is convenient in every way, gives out powerful bass of high quality. The IntelliBeam Sound Calibration System automatically generates the optimum sound field. The user only needs to press the buttons, following the prompts on the screen.

Sonos Beam pros & cons

Pros

  • Sonos ecosystem for music and multi-room audio
  • Alexa integration so this can replace an existing Amazon Echo or similar device

Cons

  • Sound field is not very wide if you don't have a small room with sidewalls to reflect the sound

Yamaha YSP-2700 pros & cons

Pros

  • This sound bar (a sound projector rather) is a perfect compromise between sound quality, ergonomics, and style
  • The wireless sub does a good job of handling special effects and can bring some rumble

Cons

  • Obviously it isn't a component system with standalone speakers
