Onkyo TX-NR696 vs Onkyo TX-NR686

Onkyo TX-NR696 review

The 7.2 channel receiver provides 165W of output power at 6 ohm-load. The device has seven HDMI inputs and two outputs, with support for 4K video, Dolby Vision and HDR10. Among the inputs for connecting external signal sources, we can note the connectors of the built-in phono corrector for the MM pickup of the vinyl player. This model has the most advanced functionality for network streaming (via Ethernet or Wi-Fi), based on a separate SoC processor. Onkyo TX-NR696 can play music from available network devices or on-line resources. In addition, this model has built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant, support for multi-room technologies DTS Play-Fi, Sonos and FireConnect. Onkyo TX-NR696

Onkyo TX-NR686 review

In addition to the main 7.2 channels - the last two of which can be used both for the rear rear and for the speakers of the “upper” channels in the Dolby Atmos or DTS setup: X - TX-NR686 is equipped with additional amplification channels for connecting a pair of speakers in the second zone. And given the receiver’s output power of 165 watts per channel, even with fairly demanding acoustics, it should not have any problems. Due to this, the TX-NR686 outperforms most of its competitors and, given the built-in 384 kHz / 32-bit DAC, allows you to save a little when organizing a stereo system in another room.
