Onkyo TX-NR686 pros & cons

Pros

  • The power upgrade was great, and it should fill a small to mid-sized room, it should be more than enough for the average user, and it sounds really great
  • The area 2 output on the NR686 is amplified and works great. I can operate it from the external area and play my Spotify independently, from my cell, while the kids watch cartoons in the living room

Cons

  • Video (4K) is really bad. Keeps fading to black and than back, sometimes it goes to static

Denon AVR-X1500H pros & cons

Pros

  • Sound is crystal clear and has plenty of power
  • Unit does not run hot at all, even in a theater cabinet
  • Build quality is great, it's a heavy unit

Cons

  • The on-screen interface is super ugly. It looks like some sort of retro 90s DOS text interface with huge block letters and no graphics
