Onkyo TX-NR797 review
It offers 220 watts per channel at 8 ohms. The unit boasts 9.2 channels. Works with Sonos, Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, and DTS Play-Fi are enhanced by high-speed 802.11ac Wi-Fi while speaker outputs with DACs can power D/A audio in three rooms. With nine channels of high-current power on tap, roll up the volume to THX Certified Select reference level and wrap your family in 5.2.4 channels of Dolby Atmos or DTS:X sound, or feel IMAX Enhanced*2 content as the filmmakers intended. 
Onkyo TX-NR787 review
The novelty of 2018 produces 100 watts of power per channel at 8 ohms with a simultaneous load of two channels. It has the same 9.2 channels. This model was the first equipped with AccuEQ Advance advanced room correction system. Developers call it the "premium multi-point calibration system that eliminates standing waves." The user can set microphones at three points in order to get the “optimum scene after automatic calibration”. 
Onkyo TX-NR797 pros & cons
Pros
- The TX-NR797 offers a wealth of features, including copious streaming and connectivity options
- The user interface and remote are easier to use than before
- Sound quality is decent
Cons
- Plastic front panel and knobs look good but feel cheap
Onkyo TX-NR787 pros & cons
Pros
- It delivers beautiful sound and moves rather seamlessly from input-to-input with my universal remote
- This receiver automatically adjusts the sound for the programming you are watching to provide the best surround experience
Cons
- The disadvantage of the TX-NR787 is that this AV receiver cannot be used as a preamplifier, since it does not have the analog multi-channel outputs that are usually found on 9-channel models
- Another issue is that the receiver does not recognize my television so an optical cable needed to be used instead of the HDMI cable for sound
