In terms of comparing JBL Bar 5.1 vs Yamaha YAS-207 the JBL Bar 5.1 is surprisingly cheap-looking for its price tag. It's mostly plastic in its design, and while it feels robust, the buttons and screen aren’t as slick as you’ll find on competitors. It has 510W of total system power.

When testing Yamaha YAS-207 vs JBL Bar 5.1, I was surprised that Yamaha YAS-207 turned out to be an elegant dynamic wireless soundbar that is capable of supporting the modern sound format DTS Virtual: X, which makes it possible to provide the user with the effect of being in the cinema, thanks to realistic sound simulating ceiling speakers. The device is equipped with a traditional layout, and an exciting sound effect is provided by the use of sound tracks DTS: X. There are 2.1 built-in channels. The power output is 100W. So far its surround sound can be heard from horizontal directions as DTS Virtual:X is not yet available. After firmware update (which according to Yamaha will be available in August this year) you will be able to listen to DTS Virtual:X enveloping surround sound coming from above at varying heights.

Pros
- Not only does it sound great, but it's just so awesome to show off
- You'll only need the JBL remote when you want to configure the settings
Cons
- I got scared when reading about people claiming the mids were non-existent
Yamaha YAS-207 pros & cons
Pros
- I personally have not heard any particular distribution of sound over the pitch, and naturally there are no sounds at the back / side
- There is no heap of wires, trouble with the arrangement of columns around the room
- DTS Virtual:X enhances the existing 3D sound of the bar by adding special effect and creating an illusion of the sound coming from all side including from above (yes, it's actually true)
Cons
- When watching movies, the sound really “falls out” beyond the borders of the soundbar
