Features

Two key features that are present in Onkyo TX-SR393 are Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer and DTS Virtual: X. New technologies of the Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer and DTS Virtual: X virtual environment allow you to create a three-dimensional sound field without using real high-rise speakers. These revolutionary technologies mimic the output signal from “virtual” high-rise speakers and surround speakers if they are physically absent in the room. This provides greater flexibility when installing Dolby Atmos and DTS: X speakers. With a power of 155 watts per channel (6 ohms), the TX-SR393 can be configured with various spatial audio options.

Design and build

The device is equipped with five sound amplification channels, which are made according to the same circuits of discrete elements. Thanks to the output stages capable of providing high current, as well as a powerful power supply unit, Onkyo TX-SR393 can successfully work even with large floor acoustics. The AV receiver uses AKM's multi-channel DAC with 32 bit / 384 kHz parameters.

Connectivity

Onkyo TX-SR393 is equipped with four HDMI inputs with support for 4K video, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. In this case, the Full HD signal can be converted to 4K, which increases the convenience of building the system. Also, the device has three linear, optical and coaxial inputs. Available in Onkyo TX-SR393 and Bluetooth, complemented by a function to enhance sound quality. The AV receiver has headphone outputs, two subwoofers and a second zone (Line Out).

Setup

For convenient surround sound tuning, the Onkyo TX-SR393 has an AccuEQ auto-calibration system with AccuReflex extension for accurate 3D format processing. It provides for adjusting the timbre of sound at low and high frequencies, as well as the function of improving the transmission of vocals of Vocal Enhancer.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • A particular tweak I really like is the Level Calibration, which allows you to adjust the volume of each speaker set
  • Another thing I like about this receiver is the unamplified line-level out port

Cons

  • When I called tech support I was told that "this is not a universal remote" and you couldn't program it
