Features

The Vizio SB36512-F6 is a good 5.1.2 soundbar setup. The active amplifier and the 5.1 channel setup delivers 101 dB of the sound pressure. This solution supports various sound enhancement technologies like DTS Virtual:X, DTS TruSurround, etc. Such technologies help to achieve well-balanced sound with deep bass and clear dialogues.

Design and build

The bar of this setup is covered by fabric at the front and the top, which unfortunately can easily get dirty or damaged. The back and the underside are made of plastic and the two sides are covered by silver-colored plastic with the Vizio logo in the center. The bar isn't too wide, but might not fit between the legs of a 55" TV, depending on its stand. It's also not too tall, so it's unlikely that it'll block the bottom part of your screen unless your TV sits flush on the table.

Connectivity

The Vizio SB36512-F6 has great sound format support over ARC. It supports the common Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound formats found on streaming platforms and Blu-ray discs. It also offers a more immersive sound experience thanks to the support of Dolby Atmos, an object-based surround sound format. Unfortunately, there's no support for uncompressed sound formats like 5.1 PCM, over this port. The Optical Audio has excellent support for surround sound.

Setup

The remote is fairly simple and allows you to control playback and basic functions of the bar. It has a small screen on the top which is informing you of the inputs, etc. The app serves as a complete remote replacement but also does more things like allowing you to update the soundbar.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The sound is clear, bass is more than sufficient
  • Once you get used to it, the remote is even fine for what it is
  • The room I put this in is also really large, with coffered ceiling and an open floor plan - the sound fills the space no problem

Cons

  • I do wish I could figure out how to control the soundbar volume with my main remote. It's in the instructions but it's more complicated than I can handle right now
