LG SL5Y Review and Specs

Features

The total output power of the soundbar is 180 watts. The subwoofer has a power of 220 watts. Accordingly, the total power of the entire device is 400 watts. First of all, it should be noted that the SL5Y supports Hi-Res Audio with recognition of FLAC and WAV files with a sampling frequency of 24 bit / 192 kHz. Along with this, the soundbar can also play more common formats: MP3, WMA and OGG. The device supports USB streaming. The subwoofer provides the necessary bass tones, high frequencies sound very good. In general, from listening to music in a small room, the impressions are good.

Design and build

The LG SL5Y is designed as a 2.1-channel system. Therefore, in the package we see the main sound panel with two main channels and a wireless subwoofer. The soundbar is quite compact. Its dimensions are 890 x 57 x 85 mm. The panel itself weighs 2.35 kg, which makes it easy to place it under a TV of any type, either on furniture or on the wall. Plastic is the main material that is used. The front is completely covered with a perforated surface, and the top has a slightly rough surface with the LG logo on the upper right side. Also on the right side there are several main buttons with power on / off, volume control and F button.

Connectivity

Near the power connector there is a digital optical input. It is also separated from the rest of the connectors, which are located on the other insert on the right rear side. The second insert has an HDMI input, an HDMI output with ARC support, and a USB port. Using HDMI 1.4, there is only ARC, eARC is not supported. The SL5Y’s wireless capabilities are limited to turning on Bluetooth 4.0 because the device does not have Wi-Fi.

Setup

Also available are simple sound modes that include ASC (Adaptive Sound Control). This option analyzes the audio input signal and adjusts the sound accordingly to achieve the best sound result.
