Sony STR DH550 review
Features
The receiver has a rated power of 145 watts per channel with a resistance of 6 ohms. With such an amplifier power, the STR DH550 can work in multi-room mode (Second Zone) without any problems which are an advantage in the Sony STR DH550 specs. It is also possible to connect a second set of speakers and freely switch between them. The receiver works well with high-definition video. Thanks to ARC, the receiver can receive audio from the TV directly via HDMI without additional connections.
Design and build
Sony STR DH550 has a typical appearance for Sony receivers. The front panel is made of matt black metal. Closer to the top is the screen and function buttons, it's all covered with glossy plastic. The casing itself has perforations for heat dissipation. The legs of the case are made of a material that dampens vibration during the operation.
Connectivity
The receiver will not be able to work as a home network media device, because it does not have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless protocols on board. There is also no Ethernet input. The only way to communicate with external devices is through a USB port. The Sony STR DH550 has a playback function via this USB, but it can work with compressed audio formats, like MP3.
Setup
As the part of Sony STR DH550 review, it should be mentioned that connecting and setting up the receiver is simple. Due to the lack of additional functions, the setting consists of placing the columns according to the manual and calibrating them. Calibration is done automatically. The system selects the optimal settings depending on the speakers and the room.
