Features

The Marantz SR6012 9.2-channel receiver, power 110 watts (8 ohms), supports the DTS: X and Dolby Atmos formats in the standard configuration, and when you connect the stereo terminal to the 11.2-channel Pre Out connectors, even the 7.1.4-channel configuration is available. In the case of building a conventional surround sound system, the receiver allows you to use the freed up channels to amplify a pair of speakers in an additional zone. Scaling of any video to 4K is available. A special eco-mode helps to optimize the power consumption of the receiver.

Design and build

Each channel of the Marantz SR6012 has a 32-bit AKM AK4458VN converter. Hi-Res formats, including DSD up to 5.6 MHz, are reproduced via the USB built-in to the facade and via the local network. The model is equipped with nine discrete HDAM amplifiers with current feedback.

Connectivity

On board there are eight HDMI inputs that support the HDCP 2.2, BT.2020, 4K Ultra HD (60 Hz) protocol and allow access to video with an extended dynamic range - HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG (HDR for broadcasts, available after updating the software). There are three HDMI outputs, two of which allow you to connect to the projector and TV at the same time, and the third outputs the AV signal to the second zone There is a set of digital inputs, MM-phono stage and 7.1-channel input. There are eleven pairs of color-coded screw terminals for connecting speakers.

Setup

The HEOS application is capable of controlling the receiver, as well as broadcasting the content of the local network or the audio stream of the Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, Tidal, Deezer and other resources. In such a system, combining many devices, including HEOS speakers, you can synchronously play the same track in all rooms or transfer certain music to an assigned group of components.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Setting it up was easy but at first I didn't realize you are supposed to do all of the setup on the TV
  • The heat issues reported in the reviews don’t seem excessive and would only come to play of placed the unit in a cabinet
  • HEOS makes it easy to manage the receiver for stream sources

Cons

  • Needs a lot of tweaking to be optimized on high end system
