Features

The THX Ultra2 Plus Certified Onkyo PR-RZ5100 11.2-Channel AV Processor is at the top of the RZ series and supports 4K (60 Hz, 2160p) resolution, as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS: X 3D audio formats 7.2.4 channel configuration. Its power is 65 W at 4 ohms. FireConnect technology allows you to transmit a signal without using a cable to speakers supporting this function and control broadcasting using the application, which is convenient when organizing a multi-room system.

Design and build

The case is made in a new design with retro reminiscences. The volume knob is placed on the right side of the aluminum facade. Above it are buttons for selecting a source and for working with additional zones. The left side is occupied by the power / standby and Pure Audio activation keys, as well as a pair of tandems (button rotary knob) for selecting listening modes and adjusting tones. The arsenal of the model includes two 32-bit DSP Analog Devices SHARC, producing up to six billion operations per second, and its digital and analog circuits are completely separated. The following DACs are on board: two AK4490 chips (32 bit / 384 kHz) for the front channels, two multi-channel AK4458 (32 bits / 768 kHz) and a pair of AK4388 (24 bit / 192 kHz) for zone 2 and 3.

Connectivity

The model has wide switching capabilities. Five of the seven HDMI inputs on the back of the chassis and two HDMI outputs support the 4KCP HDCP 2.2 copy protection protocol. You can also highlight the 11.2-channel output in balanced and unbalanced performance, connectors MM-phono stage, USB-port and RCA-outs for zones 2 and 3.

Setup

Clear the signal from pulse Noise helps VLSC technology. The speaker auto-calibration function is assigned to the AccuEQ system with AccuReflex technology, which allows phase-matching speakers for Dolby Atmos with other speakers. At the same time, DSP-correction for “fronts” is not applied in order to ensure natural sound in stereo mode.

Pros and Cons

Pros
