Features

Yamaha AV receiver, power 2 x 140 W (8 Ohms), combines in one case an integrated amplifier on discrete elements, an FM-band tuner and a multimedia network player that supports the proprietary technology for building MultiCum systems MusicCast. Yamaha proposed an almost perfect component around which you can build a modern music system.

Design and build

The central place on the front panel of the Yamaha R-N803, made of metallized plastic, expertly simulating brushed aluminum, is given to a large information display. The receiver is equipped with an ESS Saber DAC, which is ready to process audio at 24 bit / 192 kHz PCM and DSD up to 5.6 MHz. The digital-to-analogue conversion is entrusted to the SABER 9006AS 192 kHz / 24-bit DAC chip, capable of processing not only a PCM stream with parameters of 24 bit / 192 kHz, but also material in the DSD format. The output stages of the receiver are made on pairs of Sanken A1695 / C4468 transistors. Power is supplied by the large and heavy Bando transformer.

Connectivity

Compatible sources include network PCs and network storage devices with DLNA, mobile devices with wireless Apple AirPlay or Bluetooth, and several streaming services, including Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, Napster, SiriusXM Internet Radio, TIDAL, and numerous free Internet radio stations. For use with legacy sources, the R-N803 has a dedicated background input for adding a player. Two optical and two coaxial digital inputs connect CD players, Blu-ray Disc players and TVs.

Setup

You can integrate the Yamaha R-N803 into a computer network either via an Ethernet connection or wirelessly - a Wi-Fi adapter that supports today's fastest 802.11n protocol is built into the device. To use wireless communication, you just need to remember to connect the included antenna to the socket on the back of the case. YPAO adjusts the response of the speakers to get the best sound for your particular room.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Yamaha takes it a step further with MusicCast
  • Support for various wireless data channels is also noteworthy, which greatly expands the choice of components for your multi-room system
